The HPV vaccine, Gardasil, currently approved for young women in the United States may soon also be approved for young men (Burkholder).
HPV, or human papillomavirus, causes 2 problems: Cancer and warts (Human). It is a "factor in the development of nearly all cases of cervical cancer (Human)." HPV can also cause anal cancer, vulvar cancer, and penile cancer (Wikipedia).
Merck, the maker of Gardasil, has said that studies on boys should be completed this year, and that hopefully the vaccine will be approved sometime next year (Burkholder). According to public health officials, vaccinated boys against HPV will considerably slow the spread of the virus.
